Gifts Western Civilization Has Given The World

Three hundred fifty gifts of mind, law, science, and conscience—so that we never forget how good and great our heritage is.

August 2026

This document highlights but a few examples of the gifts Western Civilization has given the world.

And while it's not comprehensive, it serves as a reminder of the very real inheritance left to you by your ancestors: habits of inquiry and learning, limits on power, the scientific method, medical mercy, charitable outpourings, technical and economic abundance, and moral reforms that abolished or constrained ancient powers and barbarity.

Each entry names a contribution and the human benefit it still carries. Read it slowly. Imagine your life without these things (for without the West, there's a good chance we never would have enjoyed them). Then ask whether the culture that produced all this deserves the shame and contempt our modern society gives it.

Our hope is that this inspires within you a sense of gratitude for your heritage, and a desire to take up the torch and Rekindle the Flame of the West.

Organized by category. Numbers run 1–350. Dates in parentheses are approximate eras of origin or crystallization.

First printed as a workshop handout for students and families. The entries below are that handout, set for the page.

Receive the gift. Master the tools. Pass them on.
