This policy is about child safety on the Platform. For who we are, what we believe, and whom we hire, see Who we are and the Terms of Service (Section 2). Many of our students are minors. Their safety is the first responsibility of this Platform, ahead of growth and ahead of convenience. This policy states the commitments, rules, and procedures that protect them. It applies to everyone on the Platform and is incorporated into the Terms of Service and the Tutor Independent Contractor Agreement. It also serves as our statement to parents about how we keep their children safe.
1. Our commitments to families
- We vet every tutor. Where possible, we interview tutors before
their profile becomes visible. We may also require a background screening (criminal records and sex-offender registry) through a consumer reporting agency, including at a family's request.
- We keep instruction in the open. Sessions run inside our tools.
Tutors are prohibited from moving contact with a minor off-Platform or arranging private, off-Platform, or in-person contact except through the parent.
- We put parents in control. A child under 13 never has a private
login; a parent manages the account and is the acting account holder. For teens 13--17, a parent must create the sub-login and choose what the teen can do.
- We listen and act. We provide clear ways to report a concern, and
we respond promptly, including by suspending access and contacting authorities when a child may be at risk.
2. Who this protects and who must follow it
This policy protects all students who are minors (under 18). It binds all Users, including tutors, students, and the parents or guardians who manage student accounts, and our own personnel and contractors.
3. Tutor vetting
3.1 Interview. Where possible, we interview every tutor before their profile is activated and visible to students.
3.2 Background screening (as required). We may require a tutor to complete a background screening through a third-party consumer reporting agency, including a criminal-records check and a sex-offender-registry check, as a condition of activation, of remaining active, or in response to a family's request. When we order a report, we do so in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (standalone disclosure, authorization, and adverse-action process). Routine screening of every tutor is not yet in place; we will update this policy if that becomes our practice.
3.3 Ongoing duty to disclose. Active tutors must promptly disclose any arrest or charge involving violence, dishonesty, controlled substances, or any offense against a minor. We may suspend pending review and require screening.
4. Code of conduct for sessions involving minors
Tutors must:
- keep all communication and instruction **within the Platform\'s
tools**;
- maintain professional boundaries and keep interactions focused on
learning;
- never request, accept, or use a minor\'s personal contact details,
social-media handles, photos, or home information;
- never arrange off-Platform, private, or in-person contact with a
minor except through the parent;
- never engage in romantic, sexual, or sexualized communication with a
student, and never expose a student to sexual, violent, hateful, or otherwise age-inappropriate content;
- never be under the influence of, or provide, alcohol or controlled
substances during a session;
- never record a session without the consent of all participants and the
parent.
5. Parental supervision and visibility
- Parents are the primary supervisors of a minor\'s participation and
are strongly encouraged to be present or nearby during sessions, especially for younger children.
- We encourage a "visible setting" norm: sessions held in a common
area of the home rather than a closed private space.
- Parents can review what we have collected about their child, revoke
consent, and request deletion at any time (privacy@aletheianacademy.com).
- We do not currently record sessions; if we introduce recording for
safety, we will notify parents and obtain any required consent first.
6. Reporting concerns
6.1 How to report. Anyone may report a safety concern to **legal@aletheianacademy.com** (or support@learntheclassics.com). Reports about a child's immediate safety are prioritized. In an emergency, contact local law enforcement (911) first.
6.2 What we do. We promptly review reports, may suspend the involved account during review, preserve relevant records, and cooperate with and report to appropriate authorities.
7. Mandatory reporting and law enforcement
7.1 We and our tutors comply with applicable child-abuse mandatory-reporting laws. Suspected abuse, exploitation, or imminent risk to a child must be reported to the appropriate authorities.
7.2 CSAM. We prohibit and do not tolerate child sexual abuse material. We report apparent CSAM to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to law enforcement as required by law, and we preserve evidence as legally required.
7.3 We may disclose information to law enforcement and child-protection agencies to protect a child, consistent with law and our Privacy Policy.
8. Enforcement
Violations of this policy result in action up to and including immediate, permanent removal from the Platform and referral to law enforcement. We may suspend access during an investigation. There is zero tolerance for conduct that sexualizes, grooms, exploits, or endangers a minor.
9. Governance and review
- The operator of Aletheian Academy is the Safety/Privacy Lead
responsible for this policy, intake of reports, and coordination with authorities.
- We review this policy at least annually and update it as the Platform,
the law, and best practices evolve.
- We maintain records of reports and actions taken, consistent with our
Data-Retention Policy.
